Forests for Fish

What do forests and fish have in common? Trees near streams provide shade to keep water cool. Tree roots stabilize soil to prevent sediment from polluting the water. Leaves, branches and logs fall into water to provide shelter for fish and food for the insects that fish eat. Forests benefit fish, aquatic organisms and people too.

Forests for Fish helps us understand and celebrate the connections between woods and water. There are many things that anglers, landowners, foresters, loggers and fisheries biologists can do to protect and improve forests, water quality and fish habitat.
